Education

  • Mr. Icaza received his J.D. from UCLA School of Law in 1994. He was graduated from UC Berkeley in 1989 with a Bachelor's degree in English literature.

Professional Facts

Mr. Icaza was admitted to the California bar in 1994. Since then, he has specialized in employment law. He also serves as a Judge Pro Tempore of the Alameda County Superior Court.

Mr. Icaza provides advice and representation to employers on personnel policies and procedures and on the full range of employment laws including wage and hour laws, drafting employment handbooks and forms, the Fair Employment and Housing Act, Title VII, and hiring an firing issues.

Mr. Icaza's extensive litigation experience encompasses claims for discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. He has practiced before the Federal District of California and several California state courts. He has tried several cases to conclusion. He was a consultant for the Plaintiffs in Frank v. United Air Lines, Inc., 216 F.3d 845 (9th Cir. 200), certiorari denied 121 S. Ct. 1247, in which the  Ninth Circuit reversed summary judgment against female flight attendants, and held that United Air Lines's weight policy for flight attendants violated Title VII. The damages phase of that case is pending, but damages are expected to run into the tens of millions of dollars.

Mr. Icaza lectures frequently on labor and employment matters before management, union, student and legal audiences, including the Northern California Human Resources Association, the New America Foundation, PALM (Problems of Addiction in Labor and Management), the Bar Association of San Francisco and San Francisco high schools. He wrote, with Jennifer Randlett, Employee Assistance Programs: What Your Clients Should Know, California Labor & Employment Law Quarterly, Vol. 14, No. 4.
